Aeromar temporarily suspends flight service from Mexico City to Laredo

Updated

Four months after its inaugural flight departed from Laredo International Airport, Aeromar and the City of Laredo have decided to suspend its flight service from Mexico City until March 11.

This decision comes as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s order mandating negative COVID-19 test results from passengers returning to the U.S. on international flights comes into effect on Jan. 26.

Airport Director Jeffrey Miller said they worked with Aeromar to find a timetable that would allow time for the Biden administration to provide further guidance on this rule.

“There are a few things passengers are taking under consideration when they look at international travel,” Miller wrote LMT. “I believe people are apprehensive on testing availability and missing a flight if there is a delay in testing. If someone were to test positive where would they go for the period of recovery? As we speak some hotels in Mexico are working on programs to start offering insurance for their guests if this were to happen.

“Hopefully by March 12th this will be better defined and we can provide this guidance to passengers.”

Miller said he has not been provided flight occupancy data from Aeromar, but in general throughout the pandemic flights to and from Laredo range from 30%-50% full.

Passengers who have booked a flight during this hiatus can call Aeromar to discuss alternatives for their travel, including refunds of their ticket, the city said. Aeromar Customer service is +52 55 4172-5332 or 844-237-6629 from the U.S.

Bookings are still available through the Aeromar website for March 12, 2021 and beyond.

Aeromar’s only other flight service into the U.S. is at McAllen International Airport. This flight continues to operate, a spokesperson for the City of McAllen told LMT.
