The 36th annual F.Q. Story Home Tour, which highlights homes in the central Phoenix historic district, will be online-only this year. It’s scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 5.

This year’s virtual home tour is free to everyone. However, as home tours are our only fundraiser, we’ve provided opportunities for donations while taking the virtual tour,” according to the event’s website.

After rescheduling from spring to fall, Modern Phoenix Week also became a virtual event in October.

Terry Goddard, who served as mayor of Phoenix from 1984 to 1990 and Arizona Attorney General from 2003 to 2011, will headline the event. In a pre-recorded interview with The Arizona Republic’s Mary Jo Pitzl, he will discuss “thoughts about his life in F.Q. Story in the 1970s and ’80s, and the fight for the historic preservation of downtown Phoenix.”

Francis Quarles Story, who helped design and build Grand Avenue in 1887, bought the land bounded by McDowell Road, Roosevelt Street, Seventh Avenue and Grand Avenue. It’s now known as the F.Q. Story neighborhood. Development began in 1920, according to the F.Q. Story Neighborhood Historic District website.

The 602 homes in the neighborhood were built between the 1920s and ’40s, with styles including English Tudor, Spanish Colonial Revival and Craftsman bungalows. Some are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

How to attend the 2020 F.Q. Story Home Tour

No tickets or reservations are required. Visit the tour’s website on Saturday, Dec. 5, to take part in the virtual event.

For those interested in donating to historic preservation and support for the neighborhood’s Franklin Police and Fire High School, there will be a way to do so once the virtual tour launches.

Organizers hope to host an in-person tour on Dec. 4, 2021.
