Irrespective of premier’s calls for Quebecers to stay household, Liberal MNA Pierre Arcand holidays in Barbados

Quebec Liberal Social gathering MNA Pierre Arcand flew to Barbados with his wife for the vacations. He now says he regrets the conclusion.

Regardless of recurring phone calls by the federal and provincial governments not to vacation, Quebec Liberal MNA Pierre Arcand is in Barbados for the vacations. 

A witness in the Glitter Bay spot of the island documented seeing Arcand to Radio-Canada. 

In a statement to Radio-Canada, Arcand said he now regrets the final decision, “provided the latest condition in Quebec and the regard we owe to health and fitness personnel.” 

Arcand reported that when he and his spouse recognized Quebec’s public wellness procedures intended no loved ones Christmas with little ones and grand-children, they headed to the West Indies. 

“In spite of the reality that vacation is not prohibited, we are conscious of the magnitude of criticism in opposition to folks travelling south [during the pandemic],” he mentioned. Continue to, he added that Barbados is “currently a person of the most secure destinations in the planet.”

Arcand reported he and his wife were being analyzed for COVID-19 on Dec. 22, right before their departure. They flew south on Dec. 25. Two times later, they experienced a 2nd, required test in order to be ready to leave their residence.

He said they will also be quarantining for 14 days on returning to Quebec, as required by the federal authorities.

Canadians discouraged from travelling

A spokesperson for Quebec Liberal Celebration Leader Dominique Anglade said she “discourages absolutely everyone from travelling. Procedures enable for these actions. Madame Anglade expects all those who do to adhere to the required quarantine on return.”

Previously this month, Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) MNA Denis Tardif taken off himself from caucus soon after becoming caught on video not respecting distancing actions in a bar in Rivière-du-Loup. 

The CAQ claims a single of its MNAs experienced to vacation outside the house the province for particular explanations, but hasn’t specified who the MNA is or why they remaining. 

Québec Solidaire states none of its MNA have travelled. The Parti Québécois did not reply to Radio-Canada’s inquiries. 

Arcand was the interim leader of the Quebec Liberal Celebration from Oct 2018 until eventually Might 2020, when Anglade was acclaimed. He has represented the riding of Mont-Royal–Outremont in Montreal since 2007.
