MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) -Gov. Kay Ivey will open up the Governor’s Mansion for candlelight tours on the initial a few Monday evenings in December from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

“This is the people’s home, and I want to share it with them for the duration of this exclusive Christmas time,” stated Ivey.

The Governor’s Mansion is a 1907 Colonial Revival residence found at 1142 South Perry St. in Montgomery and has served as the formal residence for governors of Alabama because 1951.

“The 5 community rooms are open up. That would be the foyer, the eating room, the compact parlor, the drawing-area, and the sunroom,” Michael Walczak, the Govt Director of the Governor’s Mansion Authority, discussed the upstairs part of the mansion is the Governor’s private residence.

“It’s not open just at night time, we have many gatherings that go on below,” stated Nicole Owens, the Alabama Tourism Department’s Governor’s Mansion tour supervisor. “So we hope many, several people see this.”

Tickets for the excursions are out there free of charge of cost at the reward shop prior to the tours every working day. The reward shop is situated at 30 Finley Ave. across the avenue from the facet entrance of the mansion.
