Blaze at luxurious Langkawi resort threatened bordering rainforest, SE Asia News & Leading Stories

LANGKAWI (THE STAR/ASIA Information Community) – Quick action by firemen had averted a big disaster and maybe saved the tropical rainforest on the Langkawi holiday break island from staying engulfed in hearth.

Firemen managed to incorporate the blaze at the magnificent Andaman Vacation resort to reduce it from spreading to the 10 million-year-outdated rainforest found within just its vicinity at Datai Bay.

About 50 firemen ended up concerned in the procedure.

The hearth, which began in the kitchen of the 5-star lodge at about 4pm on Tuesday, ruined just about the complete constructing which was built of timber.

Weak drinking water offer and potent winds hampered the operation, with the fireplace spreading quickly to the other parts of the hotel.

Kedah Hearth and Rescue Department’s Assistant Director (Operations) Mohamadul Ehsan Mohd Zain reported they rushed to the scene when they gained the distress contact.

“We managed to set out the fireplace on Tuesday night time. On the other hand, it ignited once more in the morning (Wednesday) and firefighters had been named to the scene.”

Meanwhile, an activist said the hearth served as a wake-up contact.

“Langkawi rainforest is home to quite a few species of animals and birds. If the fireplace had distribute to the rainforest, it would be a main catastrophe,” said Security of Purely natural Heritage of Malaysia (Peka) president Shariffa Sabrina.

“Even though we have been blessed this time that the hearth did not distribute into the rainforest, it is constantly very good to be vigilant of these disasters,” claimed Puan Sri Shariffa.

“The forests are our normal heritage and should be preserved at all situations. This fire really should provide as a lesson.”
