Volleyball Travels to Ohio State for Season Opener

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland volleyball team (0-0) will travel to Columbus, Ohio where the Terps will compete in their season-opening series against the Ohio State Buckeyes (0-0). Both matches will be streamed on Big Ten Network Plus.

2020-21 STORYLINES

Erika pritchard preseason all-big ten

• Senior outside hitter Erika Pritchard was named a 2020-21 preseason All-Big Ten honoree by the conference on Wednesday. In fall 2019, Pritchard became Maryland’s first preseason All-Big Ten selection since joining the conference in 2014. She collects the second preseason conference honor of her career and remains the only Terp in program history to garner Big Ten preseason honors.

2019 in review

• Maryland finished the 2019 season with a 13-19 overall record, earning conference wins over Indiana, Northwestern, Rutgers, and Michigan State.
• The Terps’ win over Michigan State was the first time in program history Maryland has defeated the Spartans.
• Maryland earned its 1000th win in program history in September 2019 after sweeping Kennesaw State and Appalachian State, both in three sets, to close out nonconference play.
• Erika Pritchard was selected to the U.S. Collegiate National Team following the conclusion of the season.  She was one of 28 players – and one of eight outside hitters – selected nationally to join the squad.

2020 Recruiting class ranked #19 by Prepvolleyball.com

• Maryland’s 2020 recruiting class was ranked 19th by PrepVolleyball.com, the third-highest ranked recruiting class in program history.
• Comprised of setter Sydney Dowler, outside hitter Sam Csire, and middle blocker Laila Ricks, Maryland’s freshman class featured all three recruits ranked in PrepVolleyball’s Top 100 Senior Aces.
• Dowler – just the 10th Under Armour All-American to commit to Maryland in program history – also took home PrepVolleyball’s Andi Collins award for the best high school senior setter in the nation.
• The 2020 recruiting class joins the 2016 and 2017 recruiting classes as the only classes to receive recognition by PrepVolleyball. The 2016 class was ranked 16^th while the 2017 class was ranked 10^th.

• Maryland will play a 22-match conference only regular season schedule, the Big Ten announced in December.
• The Terps will play 11 total two-match series – five at home, five on the road, and one split week with Rutgers.
• Highlighting Maryland’s schedule are matchups with five 2019 NCAA Tournament teams in Michigan, Nebraska, Illinois, Penn State, and Minnesota. Three of Maryland’s 2021 opponents finished the 2019 campaign in the final 2019 AVCA Coaches Poll, while eight of Maryland’s 11 opponents finished the 2019 season ranked in the Top-100 of the nation in RPI.

• Ohio State is coming off a 15-17 schedule in 2019 when they finished eighth in the Big Ten. Their featured returning players include 2019 All-Big Ten honorees Kylie Murr and Jenaisya Moore.
• The Buckeyes are led by first-year head coach Jen Flynn Oldenburg.
