Longtime South Knoxville County Commissioner Howard Pinkston has sold his Chapman Highway car lot to Reeder Chevrolet. Pinkston is a lifelong South Knoxville resident, and is of the third generation of Pinkstons to live “South of the river.” Pinkston and his brother, Paul Jr., began operating the car lot in April of 1973.

An Americana classic is seen through the snow last week on Chapman Highway near Sevierville in 2008. It is one of hundreds of barns emblazoned since 1935 with advertising for the Lookout Mountain attraction according to Rock City spokeswoman Karen Baker. “We’re still painting them but it’s harder because of highway ordinances. Barn advertising is governed the same as billboards,” she said. According to Baker, here are currently about 90 Rock City barns in the Southeast and most are the handiwork of Chattanooga sign painter Jerry Cannon. The National Weather Service forecast for Knoxville and vicinity calls for a 70% chance of snow Saturday with accumulations of up to 2 inches.

Business continues as usual at Shoney’s on Chapman Highway in 2007 after it was announced that Royal Hospitality Corp., which operates Church’s Chicken restaurants, is acquiring Shoney’s Restaurants.
